Thanks to helpful people out there, I now not only know how to create a new post (thanks fizzycat) but have also added a picture to this one (thanks Kate)! Thanks as well to those of you who suggested I invite comments on the cover design and to those who've already commented.

Looking forward to reading more of your views.

excellent. really powerful. what color will the spine be, and will there be any foil?

Leigh Russell said...

Not sure about spine. No foil as far as I know. I'll have to get back to you on those. Thank you for your comment. Good to hear from you, moonrat my blogbuddy.

Great cover design.Sorry about your little cat.Sounds like a book plot.

Hi Leigh,

I like the book cover. Can't quite make it out but is that two people standing in the eye?

Very clever! I know we have been told not to judge a book by the cover but it would stop me in my tracks. Your publisher did good. Who is the publisher, by the way? Looking forward to the release!

I like it.

I would definitely pick it up if I knew nothing about the book.

I think it's great! Anticipation.

Looks good! Like the title as well, would pick it up if i saw it in the library (where I get most of my books)

Great cover...just saw your comment on the Novel Racers' Blog:-)

Love it! I really like the use of the typewriter type.
I also really do feel drawn into the eye. It will stand out in Waterstones as it's mono colour and you'll be getting the readers buying!!!!!

I have just read through your blog, what an adventure you are on in writing this book!
My husband is very into crime fiction, he always has a book at the end of his nose.. me, I am too busy writing!
The cover design looks fab, modern and slightly criptic.
I wish you all the luck in the world with this and will be keeping my little eye on your blog..

Hi Leigh, thanks for visiting my blog. I seem to get some visitors, but you are the only one to leave a comment so far.

I love the book cover, I think that it would attract crime writers like myself to read it. Impressive!

Can you tell me how to get all my posts' titles on my blog displayed on the front page like you do?

Great cover, good luck. I bet April can't come round soon enough for you.

Leigh - thanks for stopping by my blog. I love getting comments! :)

And I absolutely LOVE your cover. It's eye catching and leaves me wanting more. The power of the black n white with the red blood tear - chills!!

Those are exactly the types of books I look for. Can't wait for the release!! It's a def. on my list.

Diligent Candy said...

It's nice!

Personally, I would omit the red tear. It looks a bit too contrived.

Wish you the very best.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. My shed does not revolve unfortunately. I love the cover, very eye-catching and look forward to reading it in April. Well done you.

This isn't a bad cover, but with the overlay of writing, I'd think the image should be a page torn down the middle rather than a bloody tear. Nothing in the cover art or title suggests a tear (from the eye)..but it does suggest a tear (of a page) (haha bad pun).

Overall, though, it is nice looking, and would attract my interest.

Thank you for your lovely comment on my Blog..
I love your cover and will look out for your Book as an avid reader myself!
I look forward to reading more about your book development..
Good Luck !

Okay, I know most people stopping in here loved this. I thought it was a little flat. I did like the red tear, but the gray background with the lighter writing, the unsettling black font..too busy.

Just my personal opinion. Still, I think the back of a book is more often the clincher than the front.

Hi, Leigh - I can see from all the comments thanking you for your comments that you are becoming a blog addict! Is this procrastination to stop you writing your next novel? The cover is brilliant - I like the red tear - it draws the eye.
I haven't read a thriller for years - will watch out for it.

Very attractive woman on the cover, but was waiting to be a little startled, a little shocked, instead i saw a beautiful woman(judging from her eyes)who is in pain? (blood tears)and is probably being tormented by the man that we see in her eyes. This is of course a pedestrian view seeing as it is that am no expert on the field, but the cover is very telling-could you have wanted to go the mysterious way?

It's an excellent cover for the subject matter. And that's exactly what you want.

Nice cover. Will the novel be available here in the States?

Hi Leigh,

Thanks for your message on my blog. I love your book cover, it's very powerful. I also like thrilers, but your style sounds very much like Karin Slaughter and although I really like her writing, the graphic content gives me nightmares!
I don't write full time, I have only been writing seriously for the last eighteen months and if we go to Canada I shall have to work long hours, but I am trying to grab time to work on my third novel, which is a prequel to my first two.
Do tell me what you think of my two covers. One of the advantages of being published by a small press is that they let me design my own - and I am even more thrilled with DD Revolution than I was with DD Rebellion.

I like the cover. So many book covers look the same these days, but this one really stands out. Thank you for visiting my Gower blog. I'm a wannabe crime writer, and really must get cracking on my poor, neglected novel sometime soon.

Thank you once again for visiting my blog. It is a curious experience to write in a medium that facilitates near instantaneous reader responses the way blogging does, or so I'm finding. Slowly I'm becoming comfortable having taken the trainer wheels off (ceasing to monitor comments), and inviting feedback. What's been most beneficial though is the opportunity I've been given to take a peek at the work of those who are visiting your blog.

They represent an incitement to cease procrastination and an encouragement to get on with 'it'. Travis Irwin who commented somewhere ahead of me has, in his profile, as good an explanation for why as any I’ve read, particularly the bit about otherwise being ‘a guy with multiple personalities’.

I think the cover is good. Looks like suspense, mystery, intriguing with some threat. Would certainly make me pick it up and read the blurb - how is the blurb anyway?

How exciting that someone visiting my blog has then visited the blog of someone else who left a comment here. This kind of interweaving and crossing over makes the blog feel like a huge community. It's lovely to get this exchange of news and views going between fellow readers and writers.

Wow Leigh, what a striking front cover. Looks chilling! Good luck with it. I'll watch out for it in the shops :O)

Congratulations on the publication of your book - how exciting!

I started writing poetry after the sad loss of my uncle....It went from there - I find it very therapeutic and healing....they are the sort of poems suitable for greeting cards so thinking about trying to approach the card manufacturers for advice.

Congratulations again, the book cover looks brilliant

Leigh Russell said...

Cheryl, card manufacturers sounds like a great idea. Go for it! They might be only too pleased to recruit someone with your flair and if not, you're no worse off, are you? That was my attitude when I submitted my writing to a few publishers - nothing to lose. Give it a go and let us know how you get on.

It's haunting ... and the blood coming out of her eye is troubling. Which must be a good thing for a crime novel's cover, mustn't it?

Leigh Russell said...

Thanks, Angela. I hope so!

Adrian Weston said...

It's a strong design, although it makes me think more of True Crime designs than Crime Fiction - but not in a problematic way

Leigh Russell said...

Hi Adrian, thanks for visiting. I'm pleased you think the design is strong. I like the sound of that. I'm not sure how covers for Crime Fiction and True Crime differ. How do you discern which category a book falls into, from the cover alone? Can you explain the difference, please, or is it something you just know from experience? I'm glad it doesn't look sufficiently true to be a problem, anyway. This is all so much more complicated than I ever realised when I started out. I feel as though I'm swimming in ignorance... but the water's lovely and I'm having a great time!

Thanks again for your comment. I visited your blog and left a message there.
