And there you were, thinking I've been lazy not posting for a while! If anyone out there lives near any of these events - it would be lovely to meet you there. If you think your local bookshop might be willig to host an Author Visit, please ask them to contact me, or email me their details and I promise to follow up any and every suggestion.

Leigh Russell said...

willig - reminds me of the gaffes I was going to tell you about in my MS - no, on second thoughts, perhaps you'd better read the book first . . .

Charles Gramlich said...

Wow, looks like you are going to be busy, busy busy. Congrats on all this though. You'll need a break when this list is done!

Anonymous said...

Fantastic! Good luck with it all ... now the exciting bit begins.

Leigh Russell said...

I need a break now, Charles. The prospect of trying to control a class of mouthy teenagers in a week or so's time seems quite restful by comparison ...! Thanks for your good wishes, as much appreciated now as your encouragement was back in the dark days when I was beginning to wonder if Cut Short would ever see the light of day (I do avoid cliches in my book, honestly!)

Leigh Russell said...

Thanks, Aggie. It is exciting - but also rather daunting!

Tamsyn Murray said...

Wow! So busy...

You've filled me with quiet panic at the thought of my own promo tour next January!

Leigh Russell said...

I'm panicking loudly, Tam! Congratulations on being published. Welcome to the madhouse.

Barbara Martin said...

Just think of all the interesting people you will meet who are there to see you and your book. That will make your busy days satisfying. And all those places you get to visit during your signings.

Leigh Russell said...

Absolutely, Barbara. My plan is to go to bookshops in places I want to visit - does anyone reading this own a bookshop in Barbados? Throw in a plane ticket and I'll be on my way...

Tamsyn Murray said...

Is the Hatfield signing at the Galleria or in Hatfield itself? (Don't know Hatfield but have drivn past Galleria)

Leigh Russell said...

Hi Tam, it's the Galleria. Thank you for your interest. I hope to meet you there!

Leigh Russell said...

I've added 'Galleria' to the list, Tam.

Lesley Cookman said...

How on earth have you managed all those bookshops, Leigh? I'm pushed to manage one! Congratulations and well done.

My new website is up at http://www.lesleycookman.mfbiz.com/ The webhost hasn't released the old name yet. Have a look and see what you think.

Leigh Russell said...

Hi Lesley - don't forget, according to amazon.uk my book doesn't even exist!

Leigh Russell said...

I checked the link, Lesley - didn't come up. Us poor authors do get a rough deal from these internet sites (but I see you're on amazon.uk...) Thank goodness for the blog!

Middle Ditch said...

Busy schedule. I keep Bath in mind but can't promise anything concrete.

Leigh Russell said...

OMG, Monique. It would be totally amazing to meet you! I'm star struck! That has really cheered me up. With support like that, who needs **** amazon.uk anyway? Thanks, Monique.

Middle Ditch said...

18 July. What time? Still nothing concrete but would love to meet you.

Leigh Russell said...

Book signings start at 11am (Phew! a question I knew the answer to - this is all new to me, Monique.) You'll spot me straight away - a slightly dazed woman whose knees are knocking together. Please introduce yourself and I promise to try and be coherent. I do hope you can make it. I'm keen to make these events as 'personal' as I can and hope to see friends - virtual or otherwise.

fizzycat said...

First of all well done and good luck so pleased for you. I have been wondering if I should maintain the blog, that is all because I am not writing so much on it now.Still thinking.

Leigh Russell said...

Stop thinking and start blogging, fizzy! Some of us can't afford to lose any friends!

Leigh Russell said...

I see my 'visitors' count' or whatever it's called, which was stuck on 5,000, has suddenly shot up to 5,100 since I last looked - about 10 seconds ago. Hmmm. The gremlins are waking up. Better watch what we say.

Bill Clark said...

Hi, Leigh,

Re: your query about how to get your book on Amazon/UK, I think the answer is obvious: schedule a Transatlantic book-signing on this side of the Pond!

What a fabulous schedule of appearances! Did the publisher arrange all these, or did you do it yourself?

Bill Clark said...

21st September Talk at Hatch End Library

Is that Colney Hatch, perchance? :)

Bill Clark said...

Once I get started I can't stop.

In one of the sequels to my novel (there are now five in toto - a pentalogy, I do believe), one of the characters places an engagement ring on a woman's right hand, believing that the British use their right hands for engagment rings and wedding bands. But yesterday I met some Brits on Greenwich Avenue who said no, that was wrong, the British use their left hands. Help, please!

Leigh Russell said...

Hi Bill - I'm planning a virtual book signing - details to follow ! I'd love to come and do a Grand Tour of the USA signing books wherever I go... That's the dream - en route to retirement in the Bahamas... Reality is rather more mundane, I'm afraid, stuck in good old blighty, with not even a presence on local Amazon. I have preordered on amazon.com (bit sad, preordering my own book - but I just wanted to see if I could. It works! My concusion - statistically, USA is brilliant. UK is rubbish.)
Please, Bill, I'm relying on you to make sure all of America preorder Cut Short on amazon.com. That'll show amazon.uk we mean business. I can't think of any other way a piddling little author like me can get through to amazon.uk. My begging email remains unanswered. What's a girl to do, Bill? Is USA going to help me out in my private war against amazon.uk? I'm waiting... ... ... you still there, Bill? ... ...

fizzycat said...

Thanks Leigh have deceided to stay .

Leigh Russell said...

The best bit of news all day! I don't care about the idiots at amazon.uk any more!

Middle Ditch said...

Leigh. you could have knocked me over with a feather. You are a WOMAN????

I always assumed you to be a man and a handsome one at that. Never ever did it occur to me otherwise.

Actually this helps as I am a very shy woman and meeting a handsome man in Bath frightened me a little, me being an old woman with loads of wrinkles etc.

I had to check your profile just in case you are pulling my leg, but nothing there to suggest either gender.

LOL

Leigh Russell said...

That's funny, Monique! Well, the cat's well and truly out of the bag now. My publisher wanted an androgynous name, along the lines of J K Rowling not being allowed to publish as Joanna Rowling because boys wouldn't read a book by a Joanna. But get you, making an assignation with a handsome stranger! I'm afraid your mystery man is another wrinkly woman. You'll have to come to my book signing now, or I'll suspect your motives!

Hi Leigh,
I found you on Amazon.ca rather than .uk if that's any help.
(I googled it)
Here in N.Z. your best supplier will be Borders.
I can't wait to read it. Fingers crossed for you.

Leigh Russell said...

Yes, Aggie, it's on amazon.ca and on Borders - in fact, lots of places, but NOT AMAZON.CO.UK who are being totally incompetent! Thank you for your interest. It seems that getting my book onto amazon.co.uk is going to be more of a challenge than writing it!

fizzycat said...

Leigh thanks for comments, just preordered your book from Waterstones, looking forwood to reading it.At last!

Leigh Russell said...

Thanks, fizzycat. I'm delighted that my book's been preordered from Waterstones. I tried to preorder it from Amazon and had a weird automatic email about how the item wasn't available because it came from a supplier out of the country who couldn't supply in the UK or some such nonsense! It's a UK book with a UK publisher who has tons of books on amazon.co.uk! So hurrah for Waterstones and thank you, fizzycat. Please pass the word around - Waterstones good, Amazon bad!

Mel said...

Succeeded in pre-ordering from Waterstones, will anticipate it eagerly now! The book tour looks exciting, will see if I can get to any, I am in Essex. Sorry you have had problems with Amazon, my own listing there was publisher less for a few months and I had to write my own synopsis, still at least it is out there and available now! Good luck

Leigh Russell said...

Thanks, Mel. I'm delighted that orders are going well through Waterstones online - it seems a pity that amazon who have almost a monopoly on book orders are so cavalier in their treatment of authors. I emailed amazon.com and received a relevant and helpful reply within hours. Amazon.co.uk eventually managed to send a totally irrelevant automated reply. Sadly one feels helpless against a faceless corporation, but it really helps to have some support. Thank you.

Middle Ditch said...

I'm stunned that publishers are still doing that Leigh, after all, the best detective writers are woman. How sexist!!!

Middle Ditch said...

Oooops ..... WOMEN

Leigh Russell said...

I'm not sure it's still the case, MD. There are so many female writers around now, but I don't know the stats of men/women buyers.

Jim's Words Music and Science said...

Hi Leigh. I published your comment on my blog, Nearly nothing but novels: fiction and crime fiction book reviews. I also added you to my blog roll and wrote a short post about your new book. Best wishes, Jim

Leigh Russell said...

Thanks, Jim. It's so heartening to feel some support out there for a poor struggling author rebuffed by the mighty giant amazon! Please keep in touch.

Guillaume said...

Wow! You will be quite busy. I will try to show up at one of those, if I have time.

Leigh Russell said...

Merci bien, Guillaume - j'espere de vous voir bientot. (I hope that makes sense!)

Eryl said...

Just looked at my own blog for the first time in days and found a comment from you sounding rather frazzled, now I see why, god you're going to be busy! Good busy though, great to hear the book is finally going to be published I will ask my friendly local bookshop to order me a copy. If you feel like a trip to Scotland, perhaps once you are a little less frantic in the south, let me know and I'll speak to the bookshop owner. Best of luck with it all.

Marian said...

When will it be available in the US?

Leigh Russell said...

Thanks for your support, Eryl. I'd love to come to Scotland - we've been as far as Inverness and Crmerty (not sure of spelling) and it's beautiful - and of course Edinburgh for the festival! Hope you enjoy the book. You can preorder for June 10th - you're invited to my virtual book signing in June (more of that when I work out how to use my scanner...) Thanks again for the support

Leigh Russell said...

woops, Eryl - even I know it's not Crmerty... I meant Cromerty (which might still be wrong spelling, sincere apologies if so, no disrespect intended to the lovely people of Cromerty)

Leigh Russell said...

Marina, how lovely to hear from you. Different websites (apart from amazon.co.uk!!) give different dates as the publication was brought forward and some haven't yet been updated. The publication date is now 10th June so it will be available from then. I'm not sure if there will be a delivery delay to US - I've no idea how all this works. Let me know and I'll invite you to my virtual book signing in June. Thank you very much for your interest and support.

Leigh Russell said...

Now I've gone and called Marian Marina... sorry! (what's wrong with me today?) today?!note to self - preview comments before clicking 'publish' (is it that word that sends me into a spin?)
